Wellington Pride Festival kicks off tomorrow morning and we are coming together with Upper Hutt City Council, Activation and Whirinaki Whare Taonga as a community to celebrate the diversity and beauty of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Celebrating Pride at the Library is a way to show support for those who have faced discrimination and marginalisation in our LGBTQ+ community. It’s a way to acknowledge the progress that has been made, but also to recognise the work that still needs to be done.

Celebrating Pride at the Library kicks off with our PRIDE book display and if you are after more books that celebrate diversity and acceptance, please refer to our PINTEREST collection on PRIDE MONTH to request a hold on the books.

Promoting a culture of inclusivity and diversity, where everyone can feel safe and valued for who they are, starts from our children.  We are having a PRIDE Storytime on 11 March at 11AM.  Come along to this FREE family event to enjoy stories about accepting and embracing the differences in every individual.

Put your general knowledge to the test on 11 March at 2PM at our PRIDE quiz challenge "Rainbow Trivia: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Culture and History" Join us for an afternoon of fun, laughter, and friendly competition as we celebrate Pride and all that it represents. Show off your expertise on LGBTQ+ history, culture, and trivia, while meeting new people. Register your team of 2 to 6 on our website. Prizes for best dressed and most knowledgeable teams!

And here’s a little throwback in time to July 2017 when we gathered for a PRIDE storytime hosted by drag queen, LaQuisha St Redfern, who read LGBTQ+ themed stories to share the messages of love, acceptance, and diversity.

Check it out on Upper Hutt Recollect

Let's continue to spread the message of inclusivity and celebrate the beauty of all individuals, no matter who they love or how they identify.

Happy Pride!
