Why should I take part?

  1. Improve writing skills: Writing competitions are a great way to hone your writing skills, especially if you are looking to work on specific areas such as character development, plot, or dialogue.

  2. Build your writing portfolio: Winning or even being shortlisted for a writing competition can add significant weight to your writing portfolio. Having a well-crafted short story that has been recognised in a competition can help you gain credibility as a writer, which can open doors to future writing opportunities.

  3. Win prizes: Writing competitions often offer prizes, which can be a great incentive for participating. Even if you don't win, being shortlisted or receiving an honorable mention can be a great boost to your confidence and motivation to keep writing.
